What's so great about Linux and why should
I consider using it?
Quite simply, Linux is Open Source...
which means, among other things,
it's free.
Although
it's available to everyone at no cost, the meaning of free doesn't end
here.
Free also means that you're free to use it in any way you see fit. Use
it at home, use it at the office, use it on one PC or on ten thousand
and one, give a copy to friends, give a copy to co-workers, re-write
it, do what ever you want with it because it's yours.
No one
person or company owns Linux or the thousands of applications that run
under it. Linux is developed by hundreds of thousands of computer
scientists, programmers and users from around the world; All of them
contributing to the prosperity of the Linux community. But not only do
these people write programs for Linux, they're also the people keeping
Linux safe. The Linux community is the ultimate ''neighborhood watch''
program.
But being free and open isn't the only reasons you
should consider Linux. Quite frankly, it's the best operating system
available in the industry today; accompanied by the best applications
written by the most talented developers. The innovations that
Linux and free software developers create are those that set the bar
for the entire industry.
No matter how much money the software companies (like
Microsoft) throw at innovation, they always fall short of what's
created by the free software community. In the end, they are
always the followers and never the leaders in this regard.
Linux is
unsurpassed in its stability, flexibility, usability, and security. And
with corporate backing, from companies like HP, IBM, Novell, Nvidia,
and Sun Microsystems, Linux is the fastest growing operating system the
computer world has ever seen.
Many of the features that
you'll see appearing in tomorrows software (like Microsoft's next OS,
Vista) is already available on Linux desktop PCs TODAY!
Linux isn't just for the computer hobbiest or
technical ''geek''
anymore. With intuitive graphical interfaces and desktops environments,
along with easy system configuration tools, Linux can be enjoyed by
everyone - home and office users alike. You don't believe
it? Take a short TOUR
of a Linux desktop and see for yourself.
Why should
companies, like NASA, Industrial Light and Magic, Environment Canada,
IBM, and Disney be the only ones to benefit from using Linux? You can
too! We can help.
